LightBurn 2.2: True Nest for Pro only, Center Line Trace and new machines

LightBurn 2.2 adds contour nesting for Pro licences only, Center Line Trace, multi-page projects and initial support for the Bambu Lab R1.

LightBurn 2.2 has been available since 19 October 2026. The update brings new tools for layout and job preparation and noticeably extends the list of supported lasers. Several new features carry the “Labs” label: according to LightBurn, they are ready for public use but still need more testing.

True Nest for Pro licences only

True Nest nests parts based on their actual contours. Quick Nest, introduced in version 2.1, only uses each part’s bounding box. Four optimisation levels determine how long the software searches for the best layout.

The licensing is new: True Nest is the first design and layout feature that is only available with a Pro licence. LightBurn cites the high development effort and says this avoids raising prices for everyone. Core licence holders can try Pro for two weeks via “Help” and “License Management”.

Other new features

  • Center Line Trace: image tracing can now create lines along the medial axis of shapes, for example for logos, sketches and lettering. LightBurn recommends high-resolution images with clear outlines.
  • Multi-page projects: related graphics can be split across separate pages within one project.
  • 3D model import: models in STL, 3MF, AMF, OBJ, OFF or PLY format are imported as depth maps for 3D engraving.
  • Camera Print and Cut (Labs): a camera on the laser head finds registration marks on printed material and aligns the cut to them.
  • REST API (Labs): an interface for integrations with other software, intended for use on one computer or within the local network.
  • macOS: there are now native builds for Macs with Apple silicon. According to LightBurn, from macOS 28 (expected in autumn 2027) Apple will only support apps built for these chips. Older LightBurn versions will then no longer run; version 2.2 or later is required.

New and improved machine support

The ACCELaser HD1 series, which combines gantry and galvo motion, is fully supported. Epilog lasers are supported as a Labs feature. For the Bambu Lab R1, LightBurn 2.2 can initially only create and export G-code, using a device configuration file provided by Bambu Lab. Direct connection, the R1’s special features and the complete workflow in LightBurn are planned for version 2.3.

For xTool (also Labs), LightBurn listed these points in a post on 21 October:

  • Wi-Fi and network connection for the F1, F2 and P2 series, with F2 support preliminary for now
  • both laser sources in a single job on the F1 and F1 Ultra
  • autofocus on the P2 and P2S with infrared rangefinder
  • the camera currently cannot be used on machines running the latest xTool firmware
  • support for the P3 and X1 is being explored for a future release
