Sovol M1D: IDEX and seven-head tool changer from €1,295, shipping from late December
The Sovol M1D combines two independent heads with six swappable heads for up to seven colours. Pre-orders in the EU shop from €1,295, open source.
Ahead of the Bambu Lab H3C reveal with nine tools on 3 November, it is worth looking at the competition. Besides the Creality K3 and the Snapmaker U1, there is the Sovol M1D, available to pre-order in the EU shop since mid-October.
Two designs in one
The M1D combines an IDEX printer with a tool changer. Sovol calls it “DualX 1+6”: one fixed printhead plus six swappable heads, for up to seven colours or materials. According to Sovol, a head swap takes about 5 seconds, and every head is heated individually. Like IDEX printers, the M1D can print two parts at once in copy or mirror mode.
- Build volume: up to 300 x 300 x 350 mm (240 x 300 x 350 mm with all seven heads)
- Speed: up to 600 mm/s, acceleration up to 10,000 mm/s²
- Temperatures: nozzle up to 300 °C, bed up to 100 °C
- Advanced version: with enclosure and chamber heating up to 60 °C for ABS, ASA, PA and PC
- Open: hardware, firmware and software are open source according to Sovol; the slicer is OrcaSlicer
