Einstar: EXStar Hub 2.0 removes backgrounds with AI, new EXStar Mobile app

On 29 October 2026, Einstar, the scanner brand of Shining 3D, released version 2.0 of its EXStar Hub scanning software. There is also a new app for smartphones and tablets.

New in EXStar Hub 2.0

• Real-time AI isolation: when scanning with infrared, the software detects the actual object and filters out the background, turntable or fingers. This requires Windows and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or better. According to Einstar, a macOS version is in development.
• 3D Gaussian Splatting: combines image data with scan geometry for more realistic results.
• Faster: wireless infrared scanning without texture and laser feature scanning now run at 30 instead of 20 frames per second.
• Wireless calibration, without switching to a cable connection.
• Saved Mesh: one mesh can be saved per project, so you can carry on later without recalculating it.

EXStar Mobile

The new app is designed for the Einstar Rockit and Einstar 2 scanners. It connects via the scanner’s Wi-Fi hotspot, controls the scan, cleans up the mesh and exports OBJ, PLY and STL. It is available for Android, and according to Einstar the iPhone and iPad version is coming soon.
