UltiMaker Cura 5.14 beta: paint-on supports and settings in tabs

The first beta of Cura 5.14 brings paint-on supports, tabbed settings and a version for Windows on ARM. Cura 5.13.0 remains the stable version.

UltiMaker released the first beta of Cura 5.14 on 15 October 2026. The current stable version remains Cura 5.13.0. Anyone trying the beta should treat it as a test version.

Painting supports

The biggest new feature: supports can be painted directly onto the model. Areas can force supports, block them or leave the decision to Cura. The overhang angle is set with a slider. Contiguous surfaces, including curved ones, can be painted with a single click, and Shift and Ctrl draw straight lines. Because supports can now be painted, the support settings are always visible. If supports are switched off, Cura warns about models with severe overhangs.

Interface and technology

  • Settings in tabs: Settings are sorted into tabs by default. The feature comes from the Tabbed Settings plugin by Aldo Hoeben.
  • Windows on ARM: For the first time, Cura is available for Windows laptops with ARM processors. Macs with ARM already had their own version.
  • Qt 6.10: The interface now runs on Qt 6.10 instead of 6.6, with a new title bar on macOS.
  • Start and end G-code in CuraEngine: Formulas in the start and end templates and placeholders such as total print time are now calculated by CuraEngine. Templates can check lists, for example whether the material type is TPU or TPU 95A.
  • Preview: Overhangs and bridges have their own colours in the layer view.
  • Small areas: Cura prints small roof and floor areas more uniformly, which saves travel moves.

New settings and profiles

New settings include Inner Wall Inset, Branch Smoothing Layers, Minimum Infill Line Length, Maximum Bridge Deviation and a whole series of settings for support walls and support bases. Wall Line Count Skin replaces Skin Outline Count. UltiMaker has reworked the default profiles of the Factor 4+ for overhangs, bridges and tree supports. There are also fixes to other profiles, for example for the UltiMaker S3, S5 and S8, MakerBot Sketch Sprint and ELEGOO Neptune 3 Pro.

What Cura can do in general is covered in the slicer article in the Maker Wiki.
