Nintendo: 6.49 million Switch 2 in the first half, forecast unchanged, no further price rise planned

Nintendo sold fewer consoles but more games in the half year to September. Profit rose sharply, and the forecast of 16.5 million Switch 2 units stays.

On 5 November, Nintendo published its results for the first half of the financial year, April to September 2026. In short: fewer consoles than in the Switch 2’s launch year, but clearly more games sold and higher profit.

Consoles and games

All unit figures are sell-in, meaning units sold to retailers and through Nintendo’s own stores.

  • Switch 2: 6.49 million consoles (previous year 10.36 million, down 37.4%), 1.45 million of them in Europe. Since launch, the total is 26.35 million.
  • Switch 2 games: 24.49 million (up 18.8%), 73.21 million since launch
  • Switch: 1.27 million consoles (down 32.7%) and 65.73 million games (up 6.8%)

The best-selling games in the half year were Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream with 8.81 million, Rhythm Heaven Groove with 2.89 million and Splatoon Raiders with 2.42 million. Mario Kart World added another 1.78 million.

Sales and profit

  • Net sales: ¥966.0 billion (down 12.1%)
  • Operating profit: ¥216.5 billion (up 49.1%)
  • Net profit: ¥220.9 billion (up 11.0%)
  • Digital sales: ¥249.6 billion (up 60.5%), 60.7% of software sales
  • IP-related income: ¥62.7 billion (up 87.9%)

Profit was helped by the higher share of games and by refunds of US tariffs: Nintendo received about $300 million back in the first quarter. According to Nintendo, it had mostly absorbed these tariffs itself rather than passing them on through prices.

Forecast and prices

The forecast for the financial year to March 2027 is unchanged: 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles and 60 million Switch 2 games, ¥2,050 billion in sales and ¥370 billion in operating profit. According to Nintendo, it includes about ¥100 billion in extra costs from rising component prices, especially memory, and tariffs.

According to VGC, Nintendo is not currently planning another Switch 2 price rise. The company says it has secured enough memory to hold the current price for now.

Update 6 November 2026: over 25 million sold to customers

In its corporate strategy presentation on 6 November, Nintendo gave a second figure: by the end of October 2026, more than 25 million Switch 2 consoles had been sold to customers (sell-through, meaning actually bought rather than only shipped to retailers). According to Nintendo, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream stands at 8.83 million. The live-action The Legend of Zelda film is due in 2027.
