LEGO gift with purchase “Build, Paint and Play!”: a brick-built hobby bench from €130

Since 28 October 2026, LEGO has been adding set 40889 “Build, Paint and Play!” free of charge to purchases of €130 or more, while stocks last. The small set shows something many tabletop and scale model fans will recognise from their own hobby desk.

Model making in miniature

A cutting mat with a printed ruler holds three paint tubes, a brush, a scalpel and a tube of glue. Next to it sits a grey brick-built sprue with the parts of a minifigure attached, just like a plastic model kit. Once assembled, a teal Classic Space astronaut stands on a base. Apart from the minifigure, all decorations are stickers.

Of interest to collectors: the set includes the Classic Space helmet and air tanks in light bluish grey for the first time. According to New Elementary, there are no new moulds.

Designed by a fan

The design comes from Topi Kari, known in the community as Doomslizer. It won the LEGO Ideas challenge “Build Your Hobby”. Compared with his original, LEGO replaced the paint pots with tubes and changed the colour of the astronaut, among other things.
